Padas Whitewater Rafting is an exhilarating activity that is available at Sungai Padas, in the southwest of Kota Kinabalu.
The operator of Padas Whitewater Rafting is called Riverbug (officially Traverse Tours Sdn Bhd). The tour operator will arrange the pick up from your hotel/whereabouts in Kota Kinabalu for your journey to Tenom. From Tenom, you take a ride on the push trolley to Pangi. The push trolley is a sort of "raft" that rides on the railway track. Each trolley takes two passengers and an attendant to push it along. This dainty little journey takes you to the start of your white water rafting adventure. You will be given safety briefing and lesson on what to do in the event that there should be a mishap.
Then starts your 30-km rafting trip down the Padas Gorge. The rapids of Sungai Padas is classed at Grades 2 - 4, meaning it is not really suitable for children. You will basically be following the river northbound to Beaufort town, where your luggage have been transported by van and are awaiting your arrival. You don't actually arrive by the raft in Beaufort. It ends at Halogilat, where you alight, and climb into a speedboat for the balance journey to Beaufort.
If you are a "beginner" who feel that the Padas rafting may be too much for you, then you can try the milder Kiulu River Whitewater Rafting, also by Riverbug.
