Pulau Aur is one of the beautiful islands in the South China Sea off the coast of Johor. Located 75 km offshore from Mersing, it is one of the farthest major island within the Johor Marine Park.
Pulau Aur is surrounded by crystal-clear waters which look simply fantastic on a clear day. You can see the corals from the boat. There are shipwrecks off its coast - I learn that some of these are from ancient Chinese junks and sailing ships laden with cargo that are still being salvaged.
From the sea, Pulau Aur looks like two islands. This is due to the two peaks that form the island. It is said to have been noted by Admiral Cheng Ho who sailed past it in the 15th century.
Kampung Teluk Berhala is the main village on Pulau Aur. From here, you can walk across the island, passing through some lovely sceneries along the way.
Diving at Pulau Aur
The open-water dive sites at Pulau Aur are Rayner's Rock, Pulau Pinang (not to be confused with Penang Island or another island of the same name in Redang), and the Pinnacles.
