Pulau Tinggi is one of the lovely islands off the east coast of Johor. It is a soaring island that is the tip of an extinct volcano located 37 km to the southeast of Mersing. The name Pulau Tinggi means Tall Island, and refers to its shape as seen from afar. The highest point in Pulau Tinggi is 2000 feet (600 meters) above sea level.
There are three villages on the island, namely Kampung Tanjung Balang, Kampung Pasir Panjang and Kampung Sebirah Besar.
There are several places around Pulau Tinggi with beautiful powdery white sandy beaches hemmed in by the dense forest. Off the shore, the sea teems with marine life and coral reefs.
There are several islets surrounding Pulau Tinggi. The biggest is Pulau Ibul, on the eastern shore.
