Sunway Lagoon is a theme park in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. It first opened to the public on 24 October 1992. The official opening was carried out by the then prime minister, Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad on 29 April 1993. It won 2 of the tourism awards for 1994 and 1995 for the most outstanding contribution to the tourism industry and the best entertainment spot.
There are five themed lands at Sunway Lagoon, namely the Water Park, Amusement Park, Wildlife Park, Extreme Park and Scream Park. The water park of Sunway Lagoon is the only water park located 150 feet below road level. Visitors have to take the escalator to reach the water park. The Adventure Park, part of Sunway Lagoon, is a 5-acre theme park that opened in March 1994. Fort Lagoon Wild Wild West was constructed at a cost of RM30 million. The man-made surf wave pool is a 13,000 sq meter pool. It has a wave making machine that creates 8-feet tall waves that break onto a man-made beach front. Sunway Lagoon also has the longest suspension walk bridge in Malaysia. It spans 450 meters across the pool.
Location within Sunway Lagoon is the Sunway Lagoon Resort, the first fully integrated theme resort hotel in Malaysia. It offers 5-star hotel along with a shopping mall and other facilities.
