Tanjung Dawai is a coastal village in Kuala Muda District, Kedah. It is located on the northern bank of the Sungai Merbok estuary. Like Kuala Muda a little further to the south, Tanjung Dawai is a fishing village. The place is where fishing boats come in at the end of the day with their catch. There are stalls set up beside the sea where people can have a meal while enjoying the coastal scenery.
Near the mouth of Sungai Merbok is the fishing village itself, a cluster of wooden huts on stilts. It is full of character and a favourite among photography enthusiasts.
There is a jetty here belonging to the Malaysian Fisheries Department (Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia). Among the sights in Tanjung Dawai includes a Chinese temple, and the Tanjung Dawai Mosque. There is also the skeletal remains of a discarded boat.
